BALI.
Was always in my top 3 places to travel to, and now is in my top 3 places to go BACK to! I only spent a week here and wish I stayed a month! Take your time here (: It’s hella magical.
If youre anything like me, you base your plans off and around the beach and waterfalls. These things are most important to me because they recharge me. And the whole reason I personally travel is to... recharge! Recharge my energy, my vibe, my honesty, my character, my light. I feel whole when I visit different places of the world. It is the only time I feel the most me. And powerful bodies of water, they do just that..
When traveling anywhere, I highly suggest you wake up an hour before sunrise and get to it. I hate hate hate feeling like a tourist at a tourist attraction. You can’t really enjoy anything like that, and I personally feel so stupid when I’m stuck in a huge crowd of those tourists with selfie sticks and an agenda. I do everything in my power to make it to a waterfall or beach right before sunrise. I promise it’s so worth it and so beautiful and MOST of the time you’ll get the place to yourself!
I thought about doing a day by day type itinerary but I don’t really want to encourage a replica experience. Over the years, I’ve learned that going with the flow and making your days YOURS are two very significant parts of traveling. Of course you should have a basic plan/idea for safety reasons and peace of mind, but shit happens and a fully planned out trip with every detail in place is hard to follow and half the fun. So instead, I’m here to give you tips and tricks and names and suggestions and how tos.
FLIGHTS
I’m asked A LOT how I afford to travel so much. And the answer is, I’m a budget traveler! I stay looking for the best ticket prices. My top two sites are One Travel and Sky Scanner. It took me a while to get the hang of how to find cheap tickets. These two sites help a lot! Be open with your dates, take time searching, search online for promo codes, go to places during the OFF season, check different airports. Explore every option. My first round trip flight I took to South East Asia was only 460$! Rountrip! P.s - my favorite airlines is China Airlines. Good food, hot towels, and a ton of free (almost new) movies. Yes.
PASSPORT
I had a water damaged passport when entering Bali, and ALMOST didn’t get in. The guards are really strict there. Make sure your passport is in good condition. I need a new one.
STAY
Me and my friend Lindsay stayed at Ubud Puri Garden Hotel! We loved it. Friendly staff, clean, cute decor, good vibes, good food, good drinks! And it was in the middle of basically everywhere. It’s also pretty cheap! They have hostel style rooms where you can share with strangers, or private rooms for two. We opted out for a private room. There was also really good AC which is a must for me. Some nights there’s live music and bbqs in the outside lounging area. They also can schedule you a driver for your day by just calling the front desk! Love this place and definitely definitely going to visit again in the future.
GETTING AROUND
A lot of people rent a motor bike to get around Bali. But we spoiled ourselves and hired a driver with a big van and ac every day. On our first night in Bali, after checking we scheduled to have a driver early the next morning. We got soooooo lucky and ended up meeting such a sweet driver! We booked him for the rest of our trip! He drove us everywhere, waited for us, and even sometimes joined us for part of the hike. He also bought us coconuts one morning for breakfast. He’ll give you a day rate in rupi (bali currency). If you want his info, send me a message and I’ll connect you guys through Facebook!
MONEY
Bali has atm machines everywhereeeee and they accept American cards. Just make sure to call your bank and tell them they’ll be in Bali so they don’t put your card on a fraud freeze when you try to get money out! Compared to America, everything is reeeeeallly cheap in South East Asia.
Now for the good stuff...
KUTA BEACH
A beautiful long strip of beach with bars and surf shops and restaurants and live music all along it. The best place with the best sunset.
TEGENUNGAN WATERFALL
Make it here at least 20 minutes before sunrise. Purple skies, and the place to yourself. Amazing.
TUKAD CEPUNG WATERFALL
The second most favorite most magical waterfall I've ever been to. Worth the hike to get there (be prepared for sooooooo many steep stairs) but soooooo worth it! You have to hike through a bunch of rocks and a river to finally reach the cave this waterfall is in. So beautiful, please go here. We made it here right at sunrise and had the place to ourselves for TWO HOURS. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had in my life.
MONKEY FOREST
My friend loved this place. Monkeys everywhere and a really nice walk. I was skeptical about this place, but it ended up being pretty cool. WARNING: monkeys will sometimes go on you and try to steal your sunglasses haha.
NUNGNUNG WATERFALL
Huge magical waterfall. I wasn't able to make it down the stairs because I sprained my toe climbing the previous waterfall, so I stayed at the top. But my friend loved it!
We did a few more things while we were there, but those were the main ones I can remember off the top of my head! Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
All the pictures from these places will be up in travel photos under "BALI" <3
